Web system connects workshops to Freeway fleet management software
24th January 2012

London, UK, 24 January 2012 – Freeway’s new web-based Cumulus interface is making it easier for vehicle technicians and fitters to use fleet management software in real time. Developed using Microsoft Silverlight, Cumulus enables workshop staff to interact with Freeway’s core software using tailored screens that communicate live information to and from the workshop floor. This cuts the cost of deploying the system to remote users who need limited access to its functionality and features.
With Cumulus, workshop staff access and use the system as if using a cloud-based solution. All that is required is a web-enabled PC to give technicians and fitters the benefit of electronic job cards detailing their work and allow them to complete their time sheets and record defects and labour directly into the system. It also enables rapid processing of parts issued with the option of using barcode scanning for improving inventory management.
The simple web-based deployment and straightforward user interface provides exactly the right level of detail required on the workshop floor. This simplicity is also proving successful with senior managers as Cumulus cuts to the core details, for example, only showing the key details of orders requiring a senior manager’s authorisation. The comprehensive detailed fleet management remains within the core Freeway system, while specific business functions can be extracted and rapidly deployed to remote users using Cumulus.
The system can also provide instant vehicle status summaries, including colour-coded warnings showing due and overdue maintenance/inspections, overdue purchase orders for receipting, and vehicles that are exceeding their maintenance budgets. Special screens can also be developed for customers’ specific Key Performance Indicator requirements.
“Cumulus enables Freeway users to use existing web interface technology to simplify the user-experience and widen system deployment. It completely removes the need for paper records and batch data entry as the system can be updated live from the workshop floor. This is extremely useful and cost-effective where there may be large workshops. The reduction in time spent by staff walking to the office and back to the workshop for each job and to update records justifies its use,” says Patrick Tandy, Director, Freeway Fleet Systems.
