Mayrise IT system revolutionises highways services at Welsh Council
01st December 2011

Gloucestershire, UK, 01 December 2011 – Highways management software from Mayrise Systems is helping the Vale of Glamorgan Council revolutionise the management of the highway and highway assets in south Wales. The introduction of the centralised solution will be augmented with the use of mobile devices, also running Mayrise software, and will coincide with a revision of all procedures as well as reengineering of working practices in order to provide a ‘one stop shop’ for highways services.
“Using both the centralised software and mobile solution we expect to transform the execution of all our Network Management Duties,” commented Ken Evans, Group leader of Routine Highway Maintenance at the Vale of Glamorgan Council. “We can create and maintain a comprehensive knowledge database and automate many of the administrative functions such as billing and enforcement notices.”
Using the Mayrise solution the Vale of Glamorgan Council has ambitious plans to revolutionise the provision of highways services. “Using Mayrise we plan to do everything,” continued Evans. “Armed with the mobile devices our inspectors can complete routine inspections, record defects and monitor incidents. The integrated mapping module coupled with GPS functionality on the PDA’s means it’s easy to find what you are looking for and accurately record what you have found. By training each inspector in a range of duties we can be far more efficient and therefore hopefully more effective.” He continued, “Long term plans include integration with the council’s one stop call centre – ONE VALE – which will allow us to receive notifications and complaints directly to the PDA’s from their CRM.”
“The system also allows us to manage road closures including those required for filming of high profile television programmes such as Doctor Who and more mundane reasons such as markets or road works. We can issue licences, and invoices, for skips and scaffolding and record and monitor defects such as pot holes, mud on the road or overhanging vegetation. The software will also help secure and allocate capital funding and respond to complaints or legal proceedings.”
The Vale of Glamorgan Council selected the Mayrise solution to replace a previous stand-alone system. The South Wales Council consulted with other users of Mayrise software including neighbouring welsh authorities before implementing Mayrise software. “We already have a Mayrise system in place to manage street works and we have always been impressed with their understanding of our requirements and their flexibility in working with users to ensure each and every system delivers to the highest standard.”
Mark Clarke, Managing Director of Mayrise Systems added, “The Vale of Glamorgan are really forward thinking and ambitious with their plans and they expect to use the software to it’s fullest extent. We are excited to support them in this process and look forward to working with for many years to come.”
